Flamingos
Flamingo is Latin for Flame. They are classified in the phylum Chordata. There are four species of flamingos, all of which come from rather harsh inhospitable environments. The four types of flamingos are the Greater, the Chilean, the Andean, and the Puna Flamingo.
Flamingos are very unique species; they are very different to any other animal. The flamingo is a thin-legged swan necked vertebrate. Their life span is about thirty years. The flamingo’s eye is larger than its brain. They range from six to seven pounds in weight and have a wingspan between fifty-five to sixty-five inches. An adult flamingos legs are longer than its body. Flamingo’s legs bend backwards and they eat upside down. Their bills bend abruptly downward about midway. Flamingos are tropical birds; they live in subtropical places, like salty lagoons and in the shallow parts of lakes. They have a short tail, large wings, exceptionally long legs, flexible long necks, a pink color, and webbed feet. They may stand up to five feet tall. What we call their knees are really their ankles. The flamingo is sociable, living in flocks numbering in the thousands.
