James Joyce
James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a depiction of Stephen Dedalus, a sensitive, caring boy who endures many transformations. The events in the book are filtered through Stephen’s stream of consciousness, which is often broken and sporadic. There are many different, often contradicting, sides of Stephen that are introduced to the reader.
The novel begins with Stephen’s mind jumping to his earliest memories of childhood nursery rhymes to his days at Clongowes, a Jesuit boarding school, where he was bullied quit
