Cell Phones with Debit Cards in South Korea
In Seoul, South Korea, the newest cell phone add on isn't another phone. It
isn't car keys. It's a debit card. There is a built in debit card in some of the new cell
phones. According to Cho Eun-Sang, a senior manager at Harex Infotech, which is
one of the first companies to establish this new idea, "We are conditioned to think
that a credit card is a plastic rectangle..." However, it's actually the date on the strip
on the back of the card, and data can be stored anywhere.
Almost every teenager and adult in Seoul has a wireless handset. There are
33.2 million cellular subscribers, in the country of South Korea that has a population
of over 48 million. Unlike the rest of the world, cellular phones in South Korea are
much more than just phones. Kids surf the internet. Adults transfer money. Others
