Euthanasia
In Australia today, all states except the Northern Territory forbid the use of Euthanasia. In this report I will be discussing the way in which the Northern Territory was able to have its law on Euthanasia passed in their part of the country, and the way in which it is operated.
All over Australia, at this very minute in time, someone is suffering. Not only because they are at an old age, but because of the fact that they are suffering from a terminal illness. Nobody deserves to suffer, no matter who they are, and this is exactly the reason why the Northern Territory chose to have this law active in their state in 1995. The state feels as though a person has “the right to die”, although the other states that make up Australia, choose to disagree.
In order for a person to end their life in the Northern Territory, there are many regulations in which the practitioner and the patient must go through. These include:
1. The medical practitioner is to assist the patient to end his or her life by administering to the patient, or giving to the patient for self-administration, a drug or a combination of drugs which the medical practitioner determines is the most appropriate to assist the patient.
