Touching Ones Heart
Don’t Die, My Love is a phenomenal novel written by Lurlene McDaniel. This story takes place not too long ago. As the characters are being described throughout the novel, the readers realize exactly how much sadness, along with happiness there actually is between the characters. McDaniel creates a plot that will take the readers heart. She knows how to touch their souls. Some of the settings that are mentioned in the novel are breath taking. McDaniel uses characterization, a heart taking plot, and incredible settings to show the readers how Hodgkin’s Lymphoma can affect not only one person’s life, but also the lives that revolve around that one person.
Many characters are described to the reader. Of these many characters, one that plays an important part in this novel is Julie Ellis. Julie was a high school student. She has been “looking forward to having fun” (8). She was absolutely in love with her boyfriend, Luke. On her twelfth birthday, Luke came to her front door and gave her a bouquet of flowers. From that moment on she “just melted” (9) when Luke gave her flowers. Her friends say that she is “an outgoing person with high qualities” (24). Luke, the “all-star football quarterback”(23),
