Brazil
Brazil became a nation in 1822. It is the fifth largest nation in the world, and is the largest and most populated country in South America. Its population is about 176,000,000 and it has over 8 million sq km of land. In most of the country the climate is warm all year long, except in the southern part where they may experience sub-tropical temperatures. The land consists of flat and rolling lowlands, plains, hills, mountains, and a coastal belt. It is comprised of 26 states and a federal district. The government is a republic with a president and vice-president. The current president is Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The people are a diverse group with many customs and traditions.
Geography
Brazil is located on the eastern coast of South America. It has a total area of 8,511,965 km2 and is slightly smaller than the United States. Brazil the equator passes through the northernmost area of Brazil. It is bordered by every country in South America, except Chile and Ecuador. To the south of Brazil, you can find Uruguay. Argentina and Paraguay are to the southwest. The northwestern borders are Columbia and Venezuela. Finally to the north, Brazil is bordered by French Guiana, Guyana, and Suriname.
