The King of Rock 'n' Roll
How much impact must one men have had to be nick named “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”? Even though Elvis Presley died several years ago, he remains an icon in the American music industry. His rise and fall sets forth one of the most interesting stories of our country. How did Elvis rise and fall and why does the world still care?
Born on January 8 of the year 1935, Elvis was raised in Tupelo Mississippi. His family was poorer than most. His parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley, brought Elvis up in the Pentecostal Church. The first musical inclinations of Elvis stemmed from the gospel singing he was around at church. (2) Elvis grew up an only child. He was born the eldest of twins but his brother was born dead. (5) At the age of thirteen Elvis and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee. They lived there until he graduated from Humes High School. Elvis’ plans for after graduation included finding a job and working for the greater part of his life. He became a truck driver, making $1.25 an hour. (2) Elvis thought his life was on the right track, however, he had no idea what was in store for his future.
