Tupac Shakur
The vast majority of people aren’t readily acceptant of those who deviate from
what is considered the “norms” of society. In writings especially, readers are accustomed
to being exposed to a limited array of subject matter. When a writer pushes
himself/herself from the expected, the public response is rather harsh. When a literary
figure chooses to discuss topics that are not known to be discussed, or are considered
inappropriate, how are readers supposed to react to the shocking material placed before
them? When vocalists decide to “change the game” in music and include unique lyrics
and varying points of view to subjects never before uncovered in a piece of music; how is
society to react? These writers/vocalists, often known as artists, are categorized by a
single word- Outlaw. These Outlaws have taken words and their meaning to a different
level, a level that is often not accepted by the mainstream.
Of all the Outlaw artists, I particularly find the rapper/ writer Tupac Shakur the
most intriguing. Not particularly because he is of African American descent, but because
prior to my knowledge of the Outlaws, I have listened to much of his music, read a
