Record Analysis Report
Make a collection of record covers, CD covers from a variety of periods. Make a detailed report on the design features employed, type of graphic rendering techniques used and the influences of the period the overall design.
Over the years we have gone from records to tapes to CDs. The extent of change over the years, of just the covers is amazing and this is mostly due to the advancing in technology, as will be shown to you in this essay which will discuss the changes in record covers over a variety of periods.
Figure one “The Age Of The Atlantic (1969) uses no lines or outlines. It contains many colours Primary and Secondary. It is made from plasticine there fore it is 3D. There is limited pattern, but the pattern that is there is in the blimp, the record player and the butterfly. The only cropping that is used is cropping of the background. There is no hierarchy in this image. Figure one compared to figure two “Relics – Pink Floyd” (1971), is extremely different. Figure two uses a strong use of thin lines. Figure two is totally black and white and is a drawing. A similarity between figure one and figure two is they both contain a limited amount of texture. Figure two is 2D.
