It has been helping pitchers pitch around tough batters since the beginning of time. The intentional walk is caused when a batter of out standing capabilities comes to the plate, the pitcher weather he is great or just good is in a situation where it would be better for him to just walk the batter of out standing capabilities, rather then take the chance of pitching to him.
