Zora neale Hurston/Althea Gibsn
Zora Neal Hurston was a well-known Renaissance author. She was born on January 7, 1891. Hurston attended Howard University, and received her B.A in anthropology from Bernard College. Zora took great pride in her writings. She wrote tales, novels, a stage play, an autobiography and a number of essays. One of Hurston's most well known books is called Mules and men. It is Negro folklore. This book contributes to the knowledge of blacks living in the South. She influenced history by writing about how it was to be a "Negro". She helped give insight to those who had no idea of the black culture. Mrs. Hurston passed away poor and barely recognized for her work. As a folklorist and novelist, she has been a great influence on many writes including Alice Walker.
