Film Review: “Queen Margot”
During the sixteenth century the bitter struggle and war between Catholics and Protestants in France had led to the worst religious war in history. One of the best films made just to visualize the situation that had occurred during this period of time was Queen Margot. It was cast in France by 1994. The film has given an exclusive detail from different angles of history. It primarily focuses on the bloody sixteenth century struggle between French Catholics and Protestants and the resulting political intrigue in the court of King Charles XI and also the women’s contribution and their stand point in the royal families of France.
The story revolves among the royal families of France and young Protestants. Catherine de Medici, the mother of King Charles XI, set an arranged marriage between her daughter Margot de Valois and Huguenot King Henri of Navarre who is a protestant in order to pacify France and wrest power away from Admiral Coligny, a Protestant who has gained an ascendancy over the mind of Catherine’s son, King Charles IX. As shown on the film, the marriage was just to secure peace between the rival religious factions and for political reasons and Margot makes it clear
