Ian Frazier vs. Brent Staples
Frazier vs. Staples
Journalists become known for the way they write. Two journalists could be in the same place at the same time but can report two completely different stories. This is why Ian Frazier’s view of a city in “Street Scene: Minor Heroism in a Major Metropolitan Area” is much different than Brent Staples’ view in “Just Walk on By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space.” Fazier and Staples’ views are different in three ways: the atmosphere of the city, the amount of prejudice and stereotyping and the way that their views of the city changed them.
The first major difference between these two stories is the atmosphere that is explained through out them. Frazier’s explains a caring and helpful atmosphere. Random people were just willing to assist the lady that was lying on the ground, with out any question. The man pumping the lady’s chest was asked if he was getting tired but he said he wasn’t, and he “didn’t quit until the EMS paramedic took over.” The atmosphere explained in Frazier’s story also seems to be laid back because the ambulance took a long time to arrive to the scene but it was “only three blocks away.” This would imply that these types of things don
