Steroid
Today sports rule the modern media. They are no longer played for the fun of the game,
but for the love of the almighty dollar. Athletes are striving to be better than the best and putting
their bodies on the line to achieve it. To be the best today in the savage world of sports, some
athletes are turning to different alternatives then just hard work, such as steroids. Steroid back in the 1950's among weight lifters and bodybuilders.(Zickler) It has not been
up until recently that the use of steroids has circulated so heavily into the mainstream of media.
Anabolic Steroids were developed in the late 1930's to treat hypogonadism, a condition in which
the testes do not produce sufficient levels of testosterone for normal growth, development and
sexual functioning. The main medical uses of these compounds were and still are to treat
delayed puberty, some types of impotence, and in the fight against the HIV infection and other
diseases. In the 1930's scientists discovered that anabolic steroids could help in the growth of
skeletal muscle in laboratory
