    Marilyn Monroe “In 1953 Elizabeth II became the Queen of England as Marilyn Monroe became the new queen of Hollywood” (Strasberg 1). Throughout her career, she became known as the most famous international sex symbol of the 20th century. She is important to the world of theater because her fame brought her much attention, as well as to others. She became acquaintances with many famous people, even President Kennedy, which all led up to her phenomenal fame in the U.S. Marilyn’s life demonstrated the effects of her personal struggles—her insecurities about her acting and her image, her battle with depression, anxiety, addiction and sexism—as well as the triumph of her spirit, a part of her that continues to survive alongside her image as the legendary diva. Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jean Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. She was delivered to foster parents, Albert and Ida Bolender. She Grew up living with several families during her childhood and, in 1935 at age nine, entered an orphanage where she lived until June 1937.
