Sexual Contraception and Education in All Schools

A century ago, sexual intercourse before marriage was forbidden. Along with fashion, and women’s rights, this trend among young people has changed dramatically. “Two out of five (40%) of 14-year-old American girls will become pregnant before their 20th birthday” (McCall 1). Unfortunately, young people today are not more educated about sexual intercourse than young people at the turn of the century. Although abstinence is the best form of birth control, adolescents today continue to engage in sexual intercourse, and school boards need to recognize that education, as well as available contraception, in all schools is the only effective method of fighting teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
