Everlasting Importance of Myths in the Lives of Mortals
Inside every person burns the curiosity of where they come from and how they come to exist on the earth. Myths explore insights of human questions and gather many possible answers. From the way of living to the investigation of a society’s roots, stories, such as The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Greek Creation Myth, subsist for all to enjoy. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the hero searches for immorality by taking on a series of conflicts to prove himself. The Greek Creation Story explains the assembly of the world, human beings, and evils faced in daily life. Myths present an importance to every person, giving them a sense of where they come from and explanation to their questions of life.
Gilgamesh, two-third god and one-third man, uses his majestic power to dictate his people in The Epic of Gilgamesh. To overthrow this unruly tyrant, the gods create Enkidu to equal him in strength. Ultimately the two quickly cease their conflicts and confirm their friendship with a kiss. Gilgamesh decides to travel to the Forest of Cedar to defeat the forest’s superhuman guardian, Humbaba.
