The robbery scene used very effective framing techniques along with sound in order to portray the authority of the thieves. The use of numerous Big close up (BCU) and Close up (CU) in conjunction with the repetitive rhythmic music helps emphasise the importance of the characters and the significance of this scene. The camera movement also plays a key role in creating a tense atmosphere which makes the viewer repeatedly anxious of what will happen next. The scene opens with a CU of de Niro calmly walking into the building. This emphasises that he is alert and focused .He then moves into the centre of the frame and towards the camera. As this is the start of the robbery this makes the viewer aware that this man has a major role to play in this scene. These close shots and focus on his face show his dominance and the determination of the character. His white shirt contrasting with his black suit makes him stand out more against the dull background; this is another way in which the scene shows his supremacy and high status.
