Bladerunner essay
“Bladerunner is more definite about the answer to the question, ‘What is human?’ than it is to the question ‘Who is human?’ Do you agree?
In the movie Bladerunner humanity is the main theme as we see how the different characters undergo a spiritual change which leads to the question ‘What is human?’ I believe that the main attributes of being human is showing emotion, like empathy, hate, love, anger, etc. It doesn’t matter if you are cloned or genetically modified. Often when a person doesn’t show emotion we call him a ‘robot’. So why then, if the replicants in Bladerunner show emotion, cannot we see them and treat them as human. Of course the answer to the question ‘Who is human?’ might be quite simple but then again if we think about it, it becomes more and more hard to define. At first we are likely to stick with the fact that in Bladerunner, the humans living on earth in the year 2019 are ‘Human’ and the replicants are not because they are a creation of Eldon Tyrell, who is referred to as the ‘God of Biomechanics’.
