Death Penalty
Electric chair, gas chamber, lethal injection, firing squad, and hanging. When you hear these words, what do you think of? Do you feel frightened? When some hear these words, they tend to say, “Oh they deserve it.” But, who deserves to die, whether it is by accident, murder, or capital punishment.
When turning on the television, radio, or simply opening the local newspaper, one is bombarded with news of arrests, murders, homicides, and other such tragedies. There are many things that I don’t agree with in today’s society but, out of all the wrong doings that take place, murder including the death penalty is wrong. I am strongly against the death penalty because it costs the taxpayers too much money, the possible “wrongly accused,” it is cruel and unusual punishment, and the issue of capital punishment being a deterrent.
The first reason the death penalty should be done away with is that it costs the taxpayers too much money. The average death penalty is appealed three times. This means that taxpayers must pay for the same trial three times. These court costs are not cheap.
