Krishnamurti's Intention

    The organization “The Order of the Star” was established in 1911 by a group of Theosophists in Holland, proclaiming that Jiddu Krishnamurti was to be the new body of Maitreya, or some kind of Twentieth Century Messiah. Krishnamurti later dissolved the Order of the Star in a speech he gave after his enlightenment in 1929 in front of three thousand members, while many Dutch listened on the radio. This speech is the base for a superior insight that can still be contemplated some 70 years later: that ultimate truth cannot be approached by any course of action, religion, or intellectual contemplation. Krishnamurti began his speech on that August day with complete understanding of what the Order would receive from him. “I maintain that truth is a pathless land; you can’t approach it by any religion or sect. You are accustomed to being told how far you have advanced, what your spiritual state is—how childish. Who but yourself can tell whether you are beautiful or ugly within” (Krishnamurti, 1).
