Good Wives
In Good Wives, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich claims that “the story of women is important not simply because it affected what we have come to know as the history of early New England but because it was an integral and essential part of that history” (240). I strongly disagree with this statement. This may be what Ulrich claims she believes, however, there are many examples and a lot of evidence that say the opposite thing in her book. In almost every story or example that I read, she disproves her claim. During the time period of 1650-1750, husbands ran the households and the wives did exactly what was expected of them and what they were told to do. They were only allowed to do what their husbands allowed them to do.
