Concept of person using the rich analysis of personlism in Thomas Merton. Is unity of all persons in the one mystical person of Christ really possible, or do you have to be a mystic to see this real oneness?
Is unity of all persons in the one mystical of Christ really possible or do you have to be a mystic to see this real oneness? My answer to both questions is “Yes”, there can be unity of all persons in the one mystical person of Christ and Yes, you have to be a mystic to see this real oneness. One of the great dangers of mysticism is that mystics tend to climb so high that they lose all contact with ground level. The concept of a Christian mystic seems difficult to accept. This can go one or two ways. The disciples of the Pentecost is a perfect example of unity of all persons in the mystical of Christ is really possible.
Nowhere in the Scriptures does the Lord say that everyone is to become a mystic. Nowhere in the Scriptures does it say that we should become so absorbed with the spiritual that we lose contact with the reality of ordinary people’s lives.
