Dictatorship

    The Philippines is considered a third world country, a nation that has emerged from a colonial period (Fajardo, 75). It is only normal for countries like these to experience high levels of unemployment, corruption, inefficient public service and the like. These said factors are the root causes of poverty, a severe problem that needs to be addressed by the current government in the Philippines. Poverty is worsened by the problems generated by urbanization because of the different pace between the growth of infrastructure and the growth of its demand. This situation has greatly affected the quality of life in the city, diminishing the access of the poor to their basic needs and services and increasing the poverty level (Balisacan 9). It is currently measured at 40%-80%, making poverty felt by every Filipino. Based on reports, 40% of Manila's residents personally feel that over the past year their status in life has worsened while only 19% feel that life got better. At the same time, there are 2,500 who migrate to other countries daily to seek for employment and 1 out of 5 Filipinos would grab every opportunity that is given to leave the country in search of greener pastures (Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan n.p.).
