Do I agree with Stimsons Decision to Drop Atomic Bombs.

    Do I agree with Stimson’s explanation to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945? From November 1944 onward, Japan was subject to numerous bombings, but non-nuclear ones. It was predicted that because of the success of these bombings the war would end in October. When Germany surrendered in May 1945, it allowed the Allies to be able to focus their attention entirely on the defeat of Japan. Secretary of war Henry L. Stimson spoke to Truman just after he had been sworn in and wanted to know about an ‘immense project’ that was under way involving a new explosive. Truman was apparently later informed of this project. It was said that America was perfecting a bomb with enough explosive to destroy the world. “Stimson.. seemed at least as much concerned with the role of the atomic bomb in the shaping of history as in it’s capacity to shorten this war” Stimson then tackled this project head on and an Interim committee was set up to control the S-1 issue. S-1 was the name the atomic bomb project came to be known as. The committee was set up to study and report on the problems of war control and to ‘survey and make recommendations on post war research, development and controls, as well as legislation necess
