Meet the Parents
Meet the Parents is a humorous look at how a person tries to fit in to a family that is very different than he is. I would say that the Byrnes family depicted in the film deviates more from most of society than Greg does from the family. This movie is really enjoyable because I think that almost all of us have been in Greg’s situation at one time or another in our lives.
When thinking of the deviant acts in the movie one has to look at it from two different angles. Greg did a lot of things that deviated from how the Byrne’s family did things, but at the same time, the Byrnes family deviated with how most of society would do things. By that I mean that the norms of society weren’t always followed by the Byrnes’. Greg did a lot of things that made him look different than his fiancé’s family, but they were pretty small in comparison to how the family seemed to differ from most of society. One thing Jack did that made him stand out from other fathers in law is that he gave Greg a lie-detector test. To me this is pretty odd. I don’t know of too many girls’ parents who would give their daughters’ boyfriends a lie-detector test. While this isn’t a crime, in my opinion it does violate som
