Life Threating Disorders
Life-Threatening Disorders
Due to the increased social focus on achieving the “perfect body,” eating disorders are now on the rise, including a larger percentile occurring in men. Eating disorders are presently very common in the world, and there are numerous reasons why these incidences are happening.
Eating disorders are health conditions characterized by an obsession with weight, which results in severe conflicts in eating behavior. Although many eating disorders can take place in midlife, they are more common for people in their teens and 20s. Gender, age, family influences, heredity, emotional disorders, and excessive exercise are all factors that can enhance the chance of an eating disorder. Depression, anxiety disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder can also lead someone to having an eating disorder (MacDonald).
Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder are three different types of eating disorders. These psychiatric illnesses affect over five million men and women in America (Zunino). Anorexia nervosa is self- starvation, which is a rejection to maintain a simply normal body weight. Although people with anorexia are hungry, they deny their hunger in fear that they will become overweight
