Rationale Women survivors of sexual abuse may experience depression, low self-esteem, isolation, difficulty, trusting others, flashbacks and a tendency toward re-victimization in relationships (Blanchard, 1988). Therefore, counseling is needed for unresolved issues. The rationale for using group therapy methods offers advantages over individual therapy in providing a safe, shared therapeutic environment where women who have survived terrible experiences can normalize their reactions and provide support for each other while overcoming traumas associated with sexual abuse.
