Visions
As an African American Educator working in the Catholic School System,
my vision for the future reflects upon the minority students who attend Catholic school in California. Being a member of a minority group, I feel very comfortable in expressing my thoughts and views on the future issues of educating the minority youth and the culturally disadvantaged.
There are many myths in education about these diverse students.
For example, that these students are not expected to be high achievers,
or they will be high school drop outs.
To teach our youth of today, one aspect of teaching that must be recognized is that in order to have a more productive classroom with higher expectations of learning, one must acknowledge and appreciate the different cultures that exist in our schools.
The future will bring about a change in our Catholic Education System.
As the population changes, we need to think about how we can best capture the attention of students from a variety of backgrounds.
The schools will provide a stronger multicultural curriculum. There will be a need for teachers to use specific learning strategies to give instruction to students.
