How the Other Half Lives Book Report
I think that the introduction did a very good job of preparing the reader for the stories about the tenements in New York. It gave the readers an idea of what the stories were about without giving too much information. It gave the reader a small view into the whole story.
The introduction also did a good job of introducing us to the author. This book was influenced strongly by the writer’s perspectives and opinions. It was important to understand his history and were he came to get his values. His hardships as an immigrant gave him a personal view on these types of hardships and may have given him a more honest opinion on these conditions. He had experiences being a poor immigrant and being a part of the middle class. This gave him the ability to relate these stories to his audience.
The introduction told us of the importance of the advances in photography. Without the advances this book would not have been as powerful. The images presented give us visual representation and proof of tenement life. It gives faces to the victims of these oppressive conditions.
