    Martial arts films affect our knowledge about the Chinese and Japanese past. From two movies, Iron Monkey, and Seven Samurai, we could see a lot from the old Chinese and Japanese society, and their culture. In the movie Iron Monkey, the most obvious characteristic that we can see is people’s dressing styles, and hairstyle, pigtails (Qing dynasty). From the film, we could see people lived during that period were very poor. The movie has a scene that showed this poverty problem. The doctor gave a free diagnose and medicine to a poor patient. Another patient saw it, and ask the doctor why did he need to pay for medical fee but the poor patient doesn’t. The doctor simply answered him that because he is a rich man.
