Equality Even before the 13 colonies, women have been discriminated in many ways. We have lived under the United States Constitution for more than 200 years and women still struggle for equal rights. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923 by Alice Paul, three years after women won the right to vote, but it never passed congress. Today the Constitutional Equality Amendment (CEA) is proposed with hopes of passing congress and settling equal rights for women and gay & lesbian once in for all.
