Reaching the Unreachable
For the past seven years, I have dedicated my time and energy to improving the lives of children. From the beginning of my teaching career, I realized I had a preference for working with those students who did not fit in with the crowd. I was able to develop positive relationships with kids others labeled troublesome or anti-social. I began to hear, quite frequently, that I had changed a student’s life. Perhaps my understanding stemmed from my own difficulties as a child; or maybe it came from my intense belief that respect must flow both ways. Wherever I got it, my natural ability to reach even the most rebellious student shaped the direction with which my life would take.
Elementary education gave me an understanding of what patience truly is. I learned how to diversify my lessons to fit the needs of each student and work with them individually to ensure mastery. When I made the jump to working at the high school leve
