After reading Nickel and Dimed: On not Getting by in America chapter
one, I like the book . What I like about Nickel and Dimed is that it makes you
think about all those people out there who are working minimum wage jobs and have to
make a living for themselves to stay alive. It is actually depressing to see how some of
these unfortunate people have to live. To live in a car or a hotel and eat only what you
can get your hands on and too never get a chance to go-out and see a movie. It is very
sad and it makes me want to go out and help these people someway. It is sad to think that
this is reality for some people and makes me want to do good for myself.
This chapter “Serving in Florida” brings up some arguments. The main argument
that Enrenreich tries to bring up in this chapter is the quality of life people of a minimum
wage job have to live. The servers work about eight hours a day and make $2.13 plus
what tips they make. In the end the money the servers make is about $25.00 for a whole
