Beginning of the Reformation
In 1517 a monk named Martin Luther began to criticize the corruption of the Pope and the Catholic Church. He attacked the Pope for pardoning people's sins in exchange for money. Luther thought that it was immoral for the Pope's agents to travel around Europe selling letters of indulgence. I’m neither Catholic nor Lutheran but I do support Luther’s impression of the corrupt Catholic Church.
Luther was very angry that Pope Leo X was raising money with the letters. I agree with him that it was wrong for people to be able to buy forgiveness for sins they had committed. He also believed that the bible should have been allowed to be translated so people didn’t have to rely on priests. Luther decided to write down his views on the subject and th
