ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT: The Building Environment
Public architecture affects our neighborhood in many ways. Even though we don’t realize it, it molds the way we live and the way our town is perceived. I will be speaking about two of my favorite buildings in terms of formal and cultural considerations.
My first choice is the AMC 20 Movie Theatre in the City of Industry. Obviously, this building is used for entertainment purposes.
First of all, the location of the theatre was a smart move. In the beginning, the theatre was split into two mini-theatres: the AMC 4 and AMC 6. Also, the seating arrangements were horrible. You would see the person’s head right in front of you no matter where u sat. Now, the theatre has been expanded and is connected to the Puente Hills Mall, which has been around for a long time. Their business has now
sky-rocketed. This AMC is right in the middle of cities which have different “classes” of people. La Puente (next door to City of Industry) is a city with more of a lower/middle-class population and known for minimal gang violence. Diamond Bar, which is after City of Industry, is more of a middle/high-class city and is mostly occupied by the Asian community. The location of this
