Banastre Tarleton was born in Liverpool, England on august 21, 1754. Banastre was the third child in a family of seven. His father was a wealthy sea trader who made most of his money in sugar and slaves. When Banastre was 17 he went with his older brother to London, where he studied for a few months preparing to enter oxford. He eventually enrolled in Law school, but never developed as a student.
