Memoir
There I was sitting in the funeral home gazing at the silver and gold-laced casket of my great grand mother. As the singers began to play Amazing Grace a wave of sadness hits my body, sending chills up my spine and making my hairs stand on end. The tears flow as the memories come of my past with her. Seemingly forever, the song goes on and the back ground noises of snuffles and tears.
As I close my eyes I see myself back to one of my many trips to Granny Ferns when I was about 11. My legs are cramped in the backseat of the Mazda 626 as it speeds down winding country roads, which are the shape of ribbons flying in the air. The smell of Doritos, Pepsi, and candy are in the air from the last stop at the break time. I roll down my window from the stick heat. I can smell the cows in the air, of stale air and dong. I can see the two towering trees at the front of her driveway like watch dogs. “We finally here!” I exclaimed as I searched the floorboard for my shoes,
As we pull into the driveway I see a figure of an petite elderly woman in the doorway of her small cottage like house in front of a vast farm. As I step out of the car the hot stick humid heat hits me as I go for the porch, I hear the aged screen door creaking open
