Euthanasia
1
Voluntary Euthanasia is a controversial issue, which has been discussed
throughout the ages. In most places Euthanasia is illegal, because they cannot be sure if
the patient really want’s it. Some people believe if a person is emotionally distraught or of
unsound mind it would affect their judgment. Others still view these statements as
voluntary. That is why as long as there are terminally ill people, euthanasia should be
legal.
Euthanasia is performed only under extreme circumstances, and includes many
different safe guards to ensure it is voluntary. In order to perform euthanasia, the patient
must sign a will saying he, of his own free will, has specifically asked to be euthanised.
Also, there must be a witness in the room when he signs the will, to ensure that there is no
pressure to sign.
The term euthanasia comes from the Greek words meaning “good or pleasant
death”. Allot of people like to look at it as suicide(Medical-Surgical Nursing 114). This
seems like a very extreme way to view it. A better way to describe it would be, “the
intentional termination of a life by another at the explicit request of the person who dies”.
Euthanasia enthusiasts prefer to call it
