Native American Values
The culture that we live in today lacks many positive attributes that were presented to us by our Native American ancestors. I feel that if we tried harder to incorporate the important Native American morals and ideas, we could live in a more serene and balanced society. The three main ideas from the Native American society that I think were very insightful and would be quite beneficial to our modern-day society are the following: be happy with what you’re given, be responsible to your people, and be aware of the balances in life.
A major theme that emerges from many great Native American works of literature is the balances that are found in life. One basic Native American value that they lived by is that we should always understand and respect the balances of life. A simplest example in Native American culture as well as in our modern day society is that we wouldn’t have good days unless we had the contrast of bad days. People in our culture want to always be “on top”. When they are “on top,” they consider themselves superior and take big risks in money or relationships that they do not think through.
