Judgement at First Sight

    Judgment at first sight Whether people like it or not, society always has a problem with people’s appearance. One has to follow some kind of a system, or rules in order to be accepted. Those who do not follow the policy are hated and put apart from everything and from everyone, for the reason of being different. This is the case of the poor “monster” created by Frankenstein. The way he looked was a problem for him and for the people in the community. If physical appearance were not important, then the creature would have had a chance of being accepted into the community with love and care. However, society does believe that physical appearance is important and it does influence the way people act towards each other. Frankenstein should have made the “monster” less offensive if even he, the creator, could not stand his disgusting appearance. “Oh! No mortal could support the horror of that countenance. A mummy again endued with animation could not be so hideous as that wretch. I had gazed on him while unfinished; he was ugly then; but when those muscles and joints were rendered capable of motion, it became a thing such as even Dante could not have conceived” (Chapter 5).
