THE MOST POPULAR AND MOST RACIST TELEVISION SHOW OF THE 1950’S Introduction On June 28, 1951, at 8:30pm Amos ‘n’ Andy premiered on CBS. Within hours of the airing of the first episode, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) criticized it for stereotyped characterization and hinted at a boycott of the show itself and the shows sponsor.
