Character Analysis
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare, is a brilliant play about a group of Athenians during the 19th century. The plot is mainly focused on four youthful lovers, the Fairy King and Queen, and a play-with-in-a-play. Hermia, the fair and beautiful, is in love with Lysander, but has been forced by her father to become engaged to Demetrius. Lysander and Hermia decide to escape from Athens that very evening, and tell Hermia’s very good friend Helena of their plan. Helena, in a desperate attempt to make Demetrius fall in love with her, tells him of the two lovers plans. Helena and Demetrius follow them. Demetrius in an effort to find his future bride, and Helena in an effort to make Demetrius fall in love with her. However, in a delightful twist, Puck places daps from a flower over the eyes of the sleeping lovers, and accidentally causes both Lysander and Demetrius to fall in love with Helena, and no longer desire Hermia. In another scene, there is a rehearsal-taking place for a play that Nick Bottom and his friends will have to act upon in front of their duke.
