“A woman can lift up the half of the sky.” My grandma always said. At least that is what my father told me when I asked him to tell me the story about my grandmother. Her name was Zhu Jin Lin. In Chinese, her name translates as jewelry metal and pearl. She was a short woman with a long ponytail and an amiable smile. The sun darkened her skin. Her hands were strong yet rough from the planting of rice. At times, she fished in the ocean between Taiwan and China (Fish provided food) In summer, meals always consisted of fish but in the winter she caught fish only two times a week.
