The Experimental Study of Facial Nerve Regeneration: The Inf
ABSTRACT
PREFACE
After peripheral nerve injury, regeneration mainly depend on the surviving of neuron¡¯s cell body and different neurotrophic factors. Ciliary neurotrophic factor (cNTF) and Nerve growth factor (NGF) are the factors that can nurture the neuron and accelerate neurite outgrowth. cNTF mainly promotes the surviving and sprouting of motor neurons . NGF mainly plays a role in the sensory and sympathetic neurons. So exogenous cNTF or NGF can be applied to protect neurons and promote nerve regeneration. In addition, the mixture of NGF and cNTF could have better effect of therapy because of their selectivity.
The study established the experimental model of facial nerve lesion on rabbits in order to demonstrate the role of cNTF and the mixture and compare the difference between them. This will offer theoretical and experimental proofs for clinical applying of neurotrophic factors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Adult New Zealand white rabbits of both sexes Weighting 2.0 ¡«3.0 kg were used in this study . We compared cNTF(A) and the mixture of NGF and cNTF (B) to NS(C) in controls . Three groups were divided at 1,2,4,8 weeks. Every group had four animals except one in which had two animals.
Rabbits were anesthetized with
