Promotion Strategy: Nintendo
Introduction
Electronic gaming has long since been a favorite amongst adolescent boys. Year after year, new games and new systems arise in the market. Each year the quality of the games and the systems increase. It started with the Atari system, then Nintendo came along and now Sony Playstation is the market leader. In this paper, I will discuss Nintendo’s product definition. I will also come up with a strategy of how they can get back on top. Finally, I will give reasons why this strategy will be successful.
Product Definition
From 1999 to 2000, Nintendo sales decreased by 7%, from $5.4B to $5.0B. Nintendo reports that this was caused by a strong Yen and a shortfall in computing chips used to build the Nintendo systems. Nintendo has a couple video game systems. They have the Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Game Boy. The Game Boys’ sales increased during the course of the year, while the Nintendo 64 product decreased worldwide. Another product that has done well for Nintendo is their line of Pokemon titles. In 2000, it was the fastest selling game of all-time. While, their games are a big hit in the market, their Nintendo 64 unit is not. It uses a 64 bit techn
