Carl Sandburg: Chicago Writer
There are several famous writers that have based their operations in Chicago, Illinois; however, one in particular interested me due to his obtaining of the Pulitzer for his prose Abraham Lincoln: The War Years. This individual won the Pulitzer once again with the publishing of his collective work of poems called Complete Poems in 1951. Additionally, this author has been presented with various other awards including, but not limited to, honorary degrees from Lombard, Knox, and Northwestern Universities. He is a poet, children’s book writer, prose writer, and political organizer. His name is Carl Sandburg.
Carl Sandburg was not actually born in Chicago; his hometown was Galesburg, Illinois. Although Galesburg was the place of Sandburg’s birth, he did however base his career in Chicago, Illinois. Sandburg’s parents were Swedish immigrants to America. They emigrated from a territory just north of Sweden. Sandburg was not actually Carl’s family’s original last name.
