In an extract of L.G.Chandler’s text “Letters form the Trenches” it presents to us the life of the author, in the trenches of France during WWI. Through the use of textual features which include setting and the style in which it is written in are used by the author to help us, the reader, to understand their text. The historical and social context are illustrated by the way Les Chandler depicts through his letters the effect of war on the French landscape, the weather which they are experiencing and how he is going, like his health and how much sleep he is getting.
