Kipling Research Paper
Can animals be compared with humans on an intellectual and emotional scale? If they can't be, then why can animals be referred to as being sly, intelligent, or even man's best friend? Throughout history, men have portrayed animals such as the snake in the book of Genesis or Lassie the dog as possessing human characteristics and intelligence. Rudyard Kipling is also a person who has portrayed animals in an intelligent light. In Kipling's works the animals show that they can be just as intelligent as humans through the animals reasoning behind their actions, the codes of conduct or morality that the animals live by, and through the way man shows animals intelligence by equivocating himself to them.
The first example of animals being just as intelligent as humans is throught the reasoning animals use before they act. The first example of this is when a mongoose named Rikki Tikki Tavi manages to kill a snake named Kanait and starts to eat him but does not finish eating the snake because Rikki remembers that " […] a full meal makes a slow mongoose, and if he wanted all his strength and quickness ready, [Rikki] must keep himself thin", thus showing that Ri
