The work was inspired by his wife who taught math. Charles used math to plot points and angles in which he used colors to indicate them. By connecting these points, Charles used lines to create three dimensional shapes. To be more precise, Charles created ascending triangles. If anyone would try to build these shapes they would be unsuccessful. Charles used lines to create geometric shapes and value to show different shades of lightness and darkness. The numbers were used as a visual element to guide the eye. To help the viewer see how these numbers created the shapes. The piece was mostly done in pencil, with the numbers being in color to differentiate themselves.
